On January 18th, 1975, the Norman Lear-created sitcom, "The Jeffersons", premiered on CBS. Serving as a spin-off to "All in the Family", it made history as one of the longest-running sitcoms with a predominantly Black cast, spanning 11 seasons and 253 episodes. The show was revolutionary for its time, as it directly challenged the "dirt poor" stereotypes of Black families after Lear was famously lobbied by members of the Black Panthers to potray Black economic success. The show also broke major social barriers by featuring television's first regular interracial married couple, and addressing provocative themes like systemic racism, transgender identity, and adult illiteracy. The show was abruptly canceled in 1985 without a proper series finale, with its final episode airing on July 2nd, 1985.
