Today in Television History (January 23rd, 1983): "The A-Team" Starring Mr. T Premieres on NBC!

On January 23rd, 1983, the first episode of the 1980s action-adventure show, "The A-Team", premiered on NBC! The series starred Mr. T., who had just risen to fame for playing the villain in the 1982 film, "Rocky III", as well as others. The show was created by Stephen J. Cannell and Frank Lupo, at the behest of NBC Entertainment's president, Brandon Tartikoff. The first regular episode of the show aired a week later following Super Bowl XVII on January 30th, 1983, and reached 26.4% of the television audience, placing it in fourth for the top 10 Nielsen-rated shows. The show ran for just over 4 years, with the final episode airing on March 8th, 1987.
