On July 13th, 1985, the iconic "Live Aid" benefit concert happened in both London, England, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. The concert was organized by Bob Geldof to raise money for the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia - a movement that was started by the high-selling charity single, "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984. The concerts were held simultaneously in both London and Philadelphia, with an estimated 72,000 people attending the concert in London and an additional 89,500 people attending the concert in Philadelphia. It was one of largest satellite link-up and television broadcasts of all time, with an estimated 1.9 billion people in 150 nations watching the live broadcast (nearly 40% of the world's population at the time!).
