On June 1st, 1980, CNN began broadcasting on cable TV. It was launched at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The channel was started by Ted Turner and Reese Schonfeld, and was owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. CNN was the first television channel to provide 24-hour, around the clock, news coverage and the first all-news television channel in the United States. Amongst the first news broadcasts was an interview with then-President Jimmy Carter, who was running for a second term.
