Believe it or not, "The Greatest American Hero" debuted on television on March 18th, 1981. Created and produced by Stephen J. Cannell, it premiered as a two-hour premiere episode on ABC. It was a popular television show at the time of its original run, and was ultimately ended on February 2nd, 1983. The main character, who was named Ralph Hinkley, was briefly renamed "Ralph Hanley" for the three months following John Hinkley Jr.'s attempted assassination on President Ronald Reagan.
