On March 2nd, 1962, one of the most iconic episodes of "The Twlight Zone" - "To Serve Man" - premiered on CBS! Written by series creator Rod Serling, the episode was based on a 1950 short story by Damon Knight. The first cut of the episode was notoriously considered "sub-par" by Rod Serling and producer Buck Houghton, and they were so unhappy that they ordered extensive reshoots and new sound recordings. The episode was a big hit in its initial broadcast, and TV Guide ranked the episode's twist reveal - "It's a Cookbook!" - as the #1 Greatest Twist of All Time. The episode is so iconic that it had been parodied extensively in pop culture, even being spoofed in "The Simpsons" original "Treehouse of Horror" episode in 1990.
