On May 24th, 1993, the first African-American woman to go to space, Mae Jemison, appeared on the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode titled, "Second Chances". Jemison was the first real-life astronaut to appear on "Star Trek". "Star Trek: The Original Series" actress, Nichelle Nichols, was said to have been on set during the filming for the episode. Jemison has stated by Nichols had been her inspiration to become an astronaut.
