On November 10th, 1969, the first episode of the classic educational children's series, "Sesame Street" aired on PBS! It premiered to positive reviews, some controversy, and high viewership, and has aired on PBS since its debut, with its first run moving to HBO in 2016, and then on Max in 2020. "Sesame Street" was by then the 15th-highest-rated children's television show in the United States. In 1996, a survey found that 95% of all American preschoolers had watched "Sesame Street" by the time they were three. In 2018, it was estimated that 86 million Americans watched the series as a child. As of 2022, the series had won 222 Emmy Awards and 11 Grammy Awards, more than any children's show. Today, "Sesame Street" remains one of the longest-running shows in the world.
