On November 19th, 1959, Mr. Peabody and Sherman made their television debut in the segment "Peabody's Improbable History" during the premiere of "Rocky and His Friends" on ABC. Created by Ted Key, and produced by Jay Ward (who created the first animated television cartoon in 1950), the animation was outsourced to Gamma Productions in Mexico, which resulted in the signature "choppy" animation style of the cartoon. The characters became pop-culture icons for over 60 years while they were aired in syndication, and were part of a $160 million acquisition of Classic Media by Dreamworks in 2012, that led to the $145 million feature film in 2014 and the successful Netflix series.
