On October 11th, 1957, the first episode of "Leave It to Beaver" became the first television show to show a toilet on screen. In the pilot episode, Beaver decides to hide his pet alligator in the toilet tank. The original cut of the show showed the toilet bowl, but CBS decided it was inappropriate and censored the show, causing the final cut of the episode to show only the toilet tank. Although only the tank was seen, this episode marked a step forward in content made for television. In January 1971, the first toilet flush on television was heard in the pilot episode of "All in the Family".
