Today in Television History (October 29th, 1952): The First Political Commercial Aired on Television!

On October 29th, 1952, the first televised political campaign advertisement premiered on television! Endorsing President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the minute-long advertisement was created by many iconic names. The idea for the advertisement was conceived by a pliot named Jacqueline Cochran and Roy O. Disney - the older brother of Walt Disney and co-founder of The Walt Disney Company. The animated ad was produced by Disney Volunteers, and the music was written and composed by iconic composer Irving Berlin, who is well-known for writing the best-selling single of all time: "White Christmas". The advertisements memorable jingle made the phrase "Ike For President" popular amongst Americans, and eventually led to Eisenhower being elected to President of the United States, in a landslide victory.
