Today in Television History (September 17th, 1972): The First Episode of "M*A*S*H" Airs on CBS!
On September 17th, 1972, the first episode of the iconic 70s television series, "M*A*S*H" aired on CBS! It was developed by Larry Gelbart, and was adapted from the 1970 feature film of the same name. The series follows a team of doctors stationed at the "4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital" in South Korea during the Korean War. The show went on to become one of the highest-rated shows in U.S. television history. Its final episode titled "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen" , which aired on February 28th, 1983, became the most-watched television broadcast in the US from 1983 to 2010, and still remains the most-watched television series finale in history to this day, with an estimated 125 million viewers!
