Today in Television History (September 18th, 1964): "The Addams Family" Premieres on ABC!

On September 18th, 1964, "The Addams Family" television series, starring Carolyn Jones and John Astin, premiered on ABC! Based on the Charles Addam's "New Yorker" cartoons of the same name, the series was shot in black and white and aired for two seasons until April 8th, 1966 for a total of 64 episodes. Its opening theme was sung and composed by Vic Mizzy, who was known for writing many Top-20 songs for different artists in the 1930s and 1940s. The series success led to a feature film in 1991, and another in 1993. A Bally-Williams pinball machine based on the 1991 film is the best-selling pinball machine of all time, having sold over 20,000 units.
