On September 18th, 1965, "I Dream of Jeannie" premiered on NBC. Created by Sidney Sheldon, the show was famously greenlit as a response to the massive success of "Bewitched" on the rival network ABC. Starring Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman, the show was a solid performer but never a "top 10" show during its original run, peaking in its first season at #27, and at #26 in its fourth season. In 1971, the reruns of "I Dream of Jeannie" made history by beating out all three major networks in prime-time slots in New York and D.C. - a first for a non-network show. The show was largely overlooked for major awards during its initial run, receiving one Emmy nomination in 1967 for Outstanding Writing Achievement in Comedy. The show wound up being cancelled in 1970 after it had its "jump the shark" moment where the main characters married in season 5.
