On September 30th, 1982, the first episode of the iconic 80s sitcom, "Cheers" aired on NBC. Produced by Charles/Burrows/Charles Productions, it ran for 11 seasons and 275 episodes. After its premiere in September 1982, the show was nearly canceled during its first season due to its ranking almost last in ratings for its premiere (74th out of 77 shows). However, "Cheers" ultimately became highly popular on the Nielsen ratings in the United States, achieving a top-ten rating during eight out of its 11 seasons, and hitting the number one spot once, during its ninth season. The show spent most of its initial run on NBC's "Must See TV" lineup on Thursday nights. The final episode aired on May 20th, 1993, and became one of the most watched television episodes of all time, with 80 million viewers tuning in to watch!
