Today in Television History (September 4th, 1998): "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?" Premiered on iTV!

On September 4th, 1998, the British version of the television game show, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" premiered on TV. Created by David Briggs, Steven Knight, and Mike Whitehill for ITV, it later was adapted for American television and premiered in the United States on August 16th, 1999, with Regis Philbin as the host. The original American version initially aired as a two-week daily special event two times, but began as a regular series on January 9th, 2000, and aired until June 27th, 2002, with Philbin as host.
