On September 7th, 1964, the iconic political advertisement for President Lyndon B. Johnson, titled "Daisy", premiered on American television. Though it only aired once, it is considered one of the most iconic political ads in American history, and an important factor in LBJ's landslide victory against Barry Goldwater. The "Daisy" advertisement was designed to broadcast Johnson's anti-war and anti-nuclear positions. The ad was pulled from airing after its initial broadcast, but it continued to be replayed on nightly news, talk shows, and news broadcasting agencies. The Johnson campaign was also heavily criticized for using the prospect of nuclear war, and implying that Goldwater would start one, to frighten voters.
