Today in Toy History (November 26, 1964): HESS Starts a Holiday Tradition!

On November 26, 1964, HESS Corporation, a big oil company based in New Jersey, released the first HESS toy truck. Selling at local HESS gas stations for decades, the first truck sold for a price of $1.39 since HESS was big on the affordability of their toys. The first truck sold well, and was re-released in 1965. Starting in 1966, we got a different toy every year! With the success of the first truck, they started an annual holiday tradition that has gone on for 60 years!
