Today in Video Game History (August 22nd, 1987): Nintendo Releases "The Legend of Zelda" for the NES!

On August 22nd, 1987, Nintendo released the original "Legend of Zelda" in North America. Originally released in Japan on the Famicom Disk System in 1986, it made its North American debut for the NES the following year. The game follows the adventures of an elf-like boy named Link, in his quest to save Princess Zelda. The game was a commercial success for Nintendo, selling over 6.5 million copies! "Legend of Zelda" is often considered one of the greatest video games of all time, and opened the door for a whole franchise of Zelda video games over the years.
