On December 11th, 2009, video game developer, Rovio, released ""Angry Birds"" on iOS devices. By October 2010, 12 million copies of the game had been downloaded from the iOS Apple Store and Ovi, which prompted Rovio to develop versions for Android and other touchscreen-based smartphones. Critics praised ""Angry Birds"" for its success, and the games popularity led to the release of a whole ""Angry Birds"" franchise, including multiple sequel games, television cartoons, and 3 feature length animated films. There have been over 5 billion downloads across all platforms for the whole franchise. The original game was removed from the App Store on May 8th, 2019, and replaced by ""Red's First Flight"" in February 2023. "
