Today in Video Game History (February 4th, 2000): Simulation Game, "The Sims", is Released in North America!

On February 4th, 2000, the social simulation game, "The Sims", was released by Electronic Arts (EA). The game's development was led by Will Wright, and was meant to be a follow-up to his earlier "SimCity" game series. The game was initially only released for Microsoft Windows, but was later released for Mac OS in July 2000, Playstation 2 in January 2003, and GameCube and Xbox in March 2003. When released, the game received widespread critical acclaim, and is now regarded as one of the most influential video games of all time. The game's success led to "The Sims 2" in 2004, "The Sims 3" in 2009, and "The Sims 4" in 2014. The "Sims" series has sold over 200 million copies!
