On May 17th, 2009, the first public alpha build of the Mojang-created video game, "Minecraft" was released. The game eventually released a full release on November 18th, 2011. In 2014, Mojang and the "Minecraft" IP were sold to Microsoft for $2.5 billion. Since its inception, "Minecraft" has become the best-selling video game of all time, selling over 300 million copies of the game and having over 170 million monthly active players as of 2024.
