Today in Video Game History (November 19, 2006): Nintendo Releases Wii!
On November 19, 2006, Nintendo released the famous Wii console! The Wii revolutionized video games with its proprietary controller, often known as the “Wiimote”! The “Wiimote” was the first of its kind, as it detected human movements. This allowed for more opportunities for games, including more physical sports games like the best-seller, Wii Sports. The Wii sold over 100 million units, and was discontinued in 2013, shortly after the release of the Wii U.
