The first iPad was released by Apple, who had just dropped the word "computers" in their name to become Apple, Inc., in 2010. The device was revealed by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in January 2010 at a press event. During the first 80 days of release, 3 million iPads were sold, and the sold units reached up to 15 million by the time the iPad was discontinued in March 2011.
