Apple Macintosh Quadra 605
The Apple Macintosh Quadra 605 was introduced by Apple Computer in October 1993. Designed as an entry-level professional workstation, it was housed in a case commonly referred to as the "pizza box". This model was part of the "Trinity" of identical hardware; Apple sold the same internal logic board for the education market as the LC 475 and for the retail market as the Performa 475. By doing this, Apple aimed to reach every single corner of the market, though this strategy often led to consumer confusion regarding the true power and value of each line.
The Quadra 605 was considered a powerhouse computer for its price, featuring a 25 MHz Motorola 68LC040 processor. It was the first computer in the Quadra line to retail for over $1000, making the high-end 68040-series performance accessible to a wider audience. The machine was also highly prized by enthusiasts for its "tool-less" design, with the entire top of the case able to be unclipped in seconds without screws, allowing easy access to its single expansion slot and RAM. The Quadra 605 was discontinued a year later in 1994 to make way for the Power Macintosh line.
