✅ Power Mac G4 Cube

The Power Mac G4 Cube, unveiled in July 2000, was a high-concept desktop that sought to merge the professional power of a G4 tower with the compact, fanless elegance of the iMac. Housed in a stunning 8-inch clear polycarbonate cube designed by Jony Ive, the machine utilized passive convection cooling, allowing it to run in near-silence while "floating" above its base. Despite its aesthetic accolades and inclusion in the Museum of Modern Art, the Cube was a commercial disappointment due to its high $1,799 entry price, which exceeded the cost of a more expandable G4 tower while lacking an internal speaker or a monitor. Early units were also plagued by controversial "mold lines" in the plastic shell that users often mistook for cracks, and a capacitive power button so sensitive that a stray shadow or a light touch could accidentally put the machine to sleep. Citing poor sales, Apple placed the Cube on "indefinite hold" on July 3, 2001, less than a year after its launch, though its legacy lived on as the spiritual ancestor to the Mac mini.
