It was a sixth-generation console and primarily competed with the Dreamcast, Gamecube, and XBOX. It was announced in 1999, and provided backwards-compatibility for the original Playstation's DualShock controller. It received mostly postive reviews, and became the best-selling video game console of all time, selling 155 million units by the time it was discontinued in 2013. A total of 4,000 game titles were released for the console, and a total of 1.5 billion copies of all games were sold.
