Super Nintendo Entertainment System
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES, was released by Nintendo in August 1991 in North America. It received mostly positive reviews, and quickly became the best-selling console of the 16-bit era, beating out the SEGA Genesis. The console sold for a price of $199 in North America. It's best-selling game was Super Mario World, which sold 20.6 million units! It was known as the Super Famicom in Japan. The SNES kept its popularity into the 32-bit era, and sold nearly 50 million units worldwide by the time it was discontinued in 2003.
