Nintendo R.O.B.

In order to gain sales in the failure North American video game market for their newly released Nintendo Entertainment System following the infamous Video Game Crash of 1983, Nintendo bundled the console with R.O.B. (short for Robotic Operating Buddy) to show that the console was also a sophisticated toy experience. He became Nintendo's extensive marketing plan and was immediately the main focus of the console during the NES's test market launch in Manhattan in October 1985. He had interactive features when connected to the games Gyromite and Stack-Up, but was ultimately quietly discontinued a few short years later. R.O.B. became remembered for rejuvenating the North American video game market, and later made cameos as playable characters in many Nintendo games such as Super Smash Bros.
