Wii U

The Wii U was the successor to the Nintendo Wii console (released in 2006), and was released promptly after the discontinuation of the original Wii. It was released in North America on November 18, 2012, for a price of $299. Every Wii U included a Wii U unit, similar in size and design to the original Wii, but also came with an added controller called the GamePad, which featured a built in screen. The Wii U’s technology served as a basis for the technology of the Nintendo Switch, which replaced the Wii U in 2017. The Wii U was praised by critics for its innovative GamePad design and backwards compatibility with the original Wii. Unfortunately, though, they criticized the GamePad’s short battery life. The Wii U sold around 13 million units during its lifetime, and is often considered one of the biggest flops in video game history.
