IBM Selectric I

IBM debuted the original Selectric on July 31, 1961. It had the ability to print 186 words a minute, and its proprietary interchangeable ball typing element had the ability to strike as quickly as 20 milliseconds apart! IBM sold 80,000 Selectric in its first year, and more than 13 million units in total to become the best-selling electric Typewriter in history! Sales in the first year were four times IBM's projections.
