CRAZY EDDIE

Crazy Eddie electronic store was founded in 1971, with the first store being opened in Brooklyn, New York. It was started by Sam & Eddie Antar, a father and son team. The chain became a popular location in the Tri-State Area throughout the 1970's and 1980's. The chains television and radio commercials were super memorable to anybody in the Tri-State Area at that time, with a "crazy" narrator played by DJ Jerry Carroll (see videos). At it's peak, Crazy Eddie had 43 stores in four states and had reported over $300 million in sales. Eddie Antar took his millions and resigned from the company in 1986, and it was reported that the company was sold in 1987. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt in 1989 and the Antar family was ultimately arrested and imprisoned for fraud.
