Wire Recording History

Wire recording was the first form of magnetic recording technology, being invented by inventor Valdemar Poulsen in 1898. The first commercially available wire recorder was the Telegraphone, which was released in 1903. Wire Recording had a brief heyday from 1946-1954, but popularity waned after the flat record became popular.
