FIRST:  First Portable Computer

Osborne 1

The Osborne 1 is considered to be the first commercially successful portable computer. The inventor of the computer, Adam Osborne, originally wrote books on how to use personal computers prior to the Osborne 1 release. The computer weighed 24.5 pounds, and was advertised as "the first computer to fit under an airline seat". It was released on April 3, 1981 for a price of $1795 in 1981. The computer sold well, but eventually with the release of smaller, more advanced portable computers, the Osborne 1 sales slowed down. The Osborne 1 was discontinued in 1983 and a short two years later, America saw Osborne Computer Corporation go bankrupt and shut down.
