Commodore Amiga 1000

The Commodore Amiga 1000 was released on July 23, 1985. It was first shown off at the January 1985 Consumers Electronics Show. It was there where the impressive computer animation capabilities of the Amiga were shown in the form of the “Boing Ball”. The “Boing Ball” is a famous computer animated short made by Amiga engineers to demonstrate the impressive graphics of the Amiga 1000. The short featured a red and white checkered ball bouncing around the screen. When it hit the screen boundaries, it would bounce in the opposite direction, which was unusual for computer animation at the time. The “Boing Ball” eventually became part of the Amiga logo, replacing the rainbow check on the left side. The inside of the Amiga 1000’s case featured engraved signatures of the Amiga team, along with the designer’s dog’s name. The Amiga 1000 was eventually discontinued in 1987, and replaced by the lower-cost Amiga 500 (the best-selling Amiga model) and the higher-end Amiga 2000.
