IBM ThinkPad 360CSE

The IBM ThinkPad 360CSE, launched in October 1994, was a high-performance value entry in the legendary 300-series that balanced professional features with a more accessible price point. A standout in the "mobile office" market, the 360CSE was powered by an Intel 486DX2 processor running at 50 MHz, a significant boost over the base 33 MHz 486SX found in the standard 360. The "CSE" designation highlighted its 9.5-inch Dual Scan (DSTN) color display, which offered a vibrant 640x480 resolution while being more cost-effective than the smaller, high-end "Active Matrix" (TFT) screens of the era. True to the ThinkPad lineage, it featured the iconic "pop-up" keyboard that allowed users easy access to the internal 170MB, 340MB, or 540MB removable hard drives, along with the red TrackPoint II pointing stick nestled in the center of the keys. Encased in a rugged, black "Bento box" chassis and weighing approximately six pounds, the unit provided up to seven hours of battery life on a single NiMH charge and shipped with PC DOS 6.3 and Windows 3.1, solidifying its reputation as a workhorse for the burgeoning generation of 1990s road warriors.
