The Panasonic DVD-L10, launched in early 1998 for $1,299, was a "PalmTheater" miracle that debuted as the world’s first portable DVD player with a built-in screen. While earlier "portables" were essentially just smaller home decks that required a television, the L10 featured its own 5-inch active-matrix LCD, allowing travelers to experience digital cinema on a plane or in the back of a car for the first time.
