Apple iBook G3 Clamshell
The iBook G3, nicknamed the “clamshell” model, was released on July 21, 1999. This was essentially a portable iMac G3. It came in 5 color patterns similar to the iMac, also nicknamed, “The Five Flavors”. The iBook G3 sold for a whopping $1599 at release. It was discontinued in 2001 and replaced with the rectangular iBook “Snow” model. The laptop was also the first commercially-available consumer product to offer WiFi connectivity. It popularized WiFi, under Apple’s brand “AirPort”. WiFi had been invented two years earlier in 1997.
